B vitamins are a class of water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. Though these vitamins share similar names, they are chemically distinct compounds that often coexist in the same foods. In general, dietary supplements containing all eight are referred to as a vitamin B complex. Some are better known by name than number: niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin and folate.

Each B vitamin is either a cofactor generally a coenzyme for key metabolic processes or is a precursor needed to make one. B vitamins are found in highest abundance in meat. Most are also found in small quantities in whole unprocessed carbohydrate based foods.

Processed carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour tend to have lower B vitamin than their unprocessed counterparts.

For this reason, it is required by law in many countries including the United States that the B vitamins thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and folic acid be added back to white flour after processing.

This is sometimes called "Enriched Flour" on food labels. B vitamins are particularly concentrated in meat such as turkey, tuna and liver. Although the yeast used to make beer results in beers being a source of B vitamins, [2] their bioavailability ranges from poor to negative as drinking ethanol inhibits absorption of thiamine B 1[3] [4] riboflavin B 2[5] niacin B 3[6] biotin B 7[7] and folic acid B 9. The B 12 vitamin is not abundantly available from plant products[10] making B 12 deficiency a legitimate concern for vegans.

Manufacturers of plant-based foods will sometimes report B 12 content, leading to confusion about what sources yield B Instead, it measures a bacterial response to the food. Chemical variants of the B 12 vitamin found in plant sources are active for bacteria, but cannot be used by the human body. This same phenomenon can cause significant over-reporting of B 12 content in other types of foods as well.

A popular way of increasing one's vitamin B intake is through the use of dietary supplements. B vitamins are commonly added to energy drinksmany of which have been marketed with large amounts of B vitamins [12] with claims that this will cause the consumer to "sail through your day without feeling jittery or tense. Because they are soluble in water, excess B vitamins are generally readily excreted, although individual absorption, use and metabolism may vary. Note: other substances once thought to be vitamins were given numbers in the B-vitamin numbering scheme, but were subsequently discovered to be either not essential for life or manufactured by the body, thus not meeting the two essential qualifiers for a vitamin.

See section Related compounds for numbers 4, 81011, and others. Several named vitamin deficiency diseases may result from the lack of sufficient B vitamins. Deficiencies of other B vitamins result in symptoms that are not part of a named deficiency disease.

Because water-soluble B vitamins are eliminated in the urine, taking large doses of certain B vitamins usually only produces transient side effects only exception is pyridoxine. General side effects may include restlessness, nausea and insomnia.

These side effects are almost always caused by dietary supplements and not foodstuffs. Many of the following substances have been referred to as vitamins as they were once believed to be vitamins.

They are no longer considered as such, and the numbers that were assigned to them now form the "gaps" in the true series of B-complex vitamins described above for example, there is no vitamin B 4.

Some of them, though not essential to humans, are essential in the diets of other organisms; others have no known nutritional value and may even be toxic under certain conditions. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Its alphabetical independence is similar to the Germanic Wwhich historically came from a doubled V. Other languages used the macron over an n or m to indicate simple doubling. This usage was passed on to other languages using the Latin alphabet although it was subsequently dropped by most.

Other Romance languages have different spellings for this sound: Italian and French use gna consonant cluster that had evolved from Latin, whereas OccitanVietnamese and Portuguese chose nh and Catalan ny even though these digraphs had no etymological precedent. The sections and paragraphs that follow the table provide further guidance on each bar and offense. INA f 3. Conviction or admission of one or more CIMTs other than political offenseexcept for one petty offense.

Willful failure or refusal to support dependents, unless extenuating circumstances are established. Extramarital affair tending to destroy existing marriage, unless extenuating circumstances are established. Extensive case law, however, has provided sufficient guidance on whether an offense rises to the level of a CIMT.

Whether an offense is a CIMT is largely based on whether the offense involves willful conduct that is morally reprehensible and intrinsically wrong, the essence of which is a reckless, evil or malicious intent. The officer should consider the nature of the offense in determining whether it is a CIMT.

For example, an offense or crime may be a CIMT in one state, but a similarly named crime in another state may not be a CIMT because of differences in the definition of the crime or offense. The table below serves as a quick reference guide on the general categories of CIMTs and their respective elements or determining factors. The paragraphs that follow the table provide further guidance on each category. Criminal intent or recklessness, or is defined as morally reprehensible by state may include statutory rape.

No one set of principles or elements; see further explanation below may include spousal or child abuse. Crimes against a person involve moral turpitude when the offense contains criminal intent or recklessness or when the crime is defined as morally reprehensible by state statute. Criminal intent or recklessness may be inferred from the presence of unjustified violence or the use of a dangerous weapon.

supp. n. 8 al b.u. n. 20

For example, aggravated battery is usually, if not always, a CIMT. Simple assault and battery is not usually considered a CIMT. Moral turpitude attaches to any crime against property which involves fraud, whether it entails fraud against the government or against an individual. Certain crimes against property may require guilty knowledge or intent to permanently take property. Petty theft, grand theft, forgery, and robbery are CIMTs in some states.

It is difficult to discern a distinguishing set of principles that the courts apply to determine whether a particular offense involving sexual and family crimes is a CIMT.
